Mayo Hurlers win Division 2B league final

Congratulations to the Mayo Hurlers on beating Down in the Division 2B league final. Well done to Manger Derek Walsh and players many of whom hail from our two local clubs Ballyhaunis and Tooreen.

Thaigh Morley to volunteer for Special Olympics

Best wishes to Thaigh who has been chosen to volunteer to help Irish athletes who will be travelling to Abu Dhabi in March 2019 for the Special Olympics. As part of this Thaigh has agreed to raise €4,500 . He has established a fundraising campaign to reach his target and you can check it out and donate to this worthy cause by logging onto the Ballyhaunis GAA Club Facebook page. All support will be much appreciated. 

US Navy to name ship after Cpl. Gallagher

Members of the Gallagher family from Ballyhaunis have been informed that after a five year campaign the US Navy will name its next state of the art destroyer after the young Ballyhaunis marine who died in the Vietnam War in 1967. It is planned to commence building the ship later this year and should be completed in the next three  years. 

Balllyhaunis landmark building sold

News that the large corner building formerly known as Dillon's has been purchased by a Dublin developer.He has plans to renovate this old building which in disrepair and an eyesore in the town centre. Funding of €96000 has also been sanctioned for the square so between both projects the centre of Ballyhaunis will really come to life and  be an attractive area in the town. 

Ballyhaunis to get by-laws to target anti-social behaviour

New by-laws preventing the consumption of intoxicating liqour in public places are to be introduced in Ballyhaunis. Cllr John Cribben highlighted the problem at a recent Mayo County Council meeting and said it was a major problem especially at The Friary Ground. Once the by-laws are drafted it will take up to three months to put them in place. 

Monday Morning Meet

Ballyhaunis is to have a new group for people 55 and older. It will commence on Monday March 5th 2018 and the group will meet every second week. It will start at 11am and finish at 1.30pm in Clare Court. The meetings will kick of with tea and coffee followed by activities and guest speakers. There will be a nominal cost of €2 to cover light refreshments and guest speakers. Research studies have proven over time how social interactions have many benefits for all ages. 
This group is supported by Public Health Nursing, Ballyhaunis Chamber and Clare Court Warden. 

Relocation of Ulster Bank Mobile Banking service in Ballyhaunis

The Ulster Bank Mobile Banking Service has been relocated to the rear of Delaneys Hardware Store, Bridge Street, Ballyhaunis . 
This service operates 
Tuesday 10.15 to 12.30 and Thursday 14.00 to 15.00

New Counselling Service

A new counselling service at the Family Resource Centre Ballyhaunis will commence this month. It will offer confidential support  to adolescents and adults who have experienced or are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Affordable rates and fees are negotiable.

Ballyhaunis Dramatic Society

The drama society are now starting to plan for their next production which will be staged in the spring of 2018. New members are always welcome. Anyone wishing to join or find out more information can contact Phillip's Bar and they will pass on contact details.
